Heather Steven - Assistant Murraypark Hotel Manager
"After graduating with a HND Hospitality Management, I moved
from Glasgow to Crieff for a full time job in the Banqueting and
Events team. The B&E team gave me experience of running
large functions and taught me about the attention to detail
required in a 4 star setting. After 7 months, I moved to the
Murraypark Hotel for a different experience, which gave me the
opportunity to be trained in Reception, Bar, Restaurant and
Housekeeping. A Supervisory position became available
after one month in my new job, and as I had already attended the
Supervisory 6 week course and was trained in Leadership Styles and
Appraisal Skills so I decided to go for it. Since these had
given me confidence in dealing with staff and guests, I felt I was
ready progress my career. I was Supervisor for under a
year when the Assistant Manager position became available, and I
jumped at this next opportunity as I knew I developed so much since
being made a Supervisor.
What can I say about the last 2 years? I've gained so much
knowledge and skills and my confidence has grown immensely.
At the Murraypark Hotel, it's a small team, and we support each
other, so there's great camaraderie. Many of our guests
are repeat customers. We get the chance to really chat and make
friends. It's a personal experience and I can make
sure guests have a great time with us. There's such a
variety to every day: every day's a fresh challenge.
Crieff's a small community and I've got to know many of the local
people. As well as that, I've also made a lot of close
friends among the staff. When I told people I was leaving
Glasgow to
work in Crieff they thought I was mad. Why would I go from a
city to a small village? I moved for a job, and it's turned out to
be great for me, both professionally and personally."
Fred Mason - HR Administrator
"I feel part of a great team that is achieving results. If you
are prepared to work hard, show initiative and can get on well with
other people, then the Hydro is as good as it gets. The Hydro has
been good to me, and good for me."
Geoff Morrison - Marketing Manager
"I get to use my degree, be creative and really enjoy the job as
it is such a varied role- no two days are ever the same. If you
want to make a difference and are willing to work hard, there are
plenty of opportunities available within the company".
