We have so many wonderful things to tell you that we could write a book, but we won't! Instead, we'll bring you snippits, highlights and share all our news and chat with you here. Enjoy!
Knowing me, knowing you!
Our Conference and Events team has grown over the past year from six to thirteen, so we thought we’d take the opportunity to introduce you to one of the team.
Leah Dalton has been working at Crieff Hydro for almost 2 years, has recently been promoted to Senior Events Coordinator. We caught up with her to find out more about her new role and what life is like in the world of Crieff Hydro events.
Firstly, congratulations on your promotion to Senior Events Co-ordinator Leah! Could you tell us a bit more about how you became involved in events?
Before joining Crieff Hydro, part of my previous role was to organise events. I really enjoyed this aspect of the job and was keen to apply for a job that focused mainly on events.
What was the first event you organised for Crieff Hydro?
The first that I can recall was a team day out for Enterprise Rent-a-Car. They had a team day that included lunch, activities and spa treatments. They have also returned a couple of times since.
What's your favourite part of the job?
Meeting new people and working on events that are perhaps a little different. I like events that are not straightforward and maybe include things that others don’t, such as a theme or a different set-up.
What's been your biggest challenge to date?
My biggest challenge so far has definitely been taking on the corporate bookings from Peebles Hydro. Migrating the Peebles’ bookings onto the same system as Crieff Hydro uses, as well as taking on new enquiries and dealing will my events at Crieff Hydro has been quite a challenge! However, it’s a challenge that I’m relishing, and it’s definitely helped me gain a wider knowledge across our business.
What do you enjoy most about working with the events team?
Everything really, however I believe that you enjoy your job more when you get on well with your colleagues and I think Wendy, our Conference Sales Manager, has put a great events team together. We all work hard to get the job done, and that we do so in a happy environment.
What's the best advice you would offer someone who's thinking about working in events?
To go for it! Being involved with meetings and events for Crieff Hydro’s family of hotels is a great opportunity – and it’s great fun too.
What's the best bit of career advice you've been offered?
That if you are willing to put the hard work in, you will succeed. And also, when under pressure, take a minute to feel calm and prioritise your work load. It’s harder to get things done when you are stressed.
Finally, what for you have been the highlights of this year in the events team?
Being promoted to Senior Events Co-ordinator and also the company’s purchase of Peebles Hydro. I feel that this is a new adventure for the whole team and I am excited about what the future holds.

What makes an event great?
When you think of an ‘event’, what springs to mind? We’ve all experienced great events and probably some not so great events and gatherings so we all have an idea of what works and what falls a bit flat!
Over the past 12 months, we’ve hosted over 1160 events here at Crieff Hydro, each completely different, unique and when the occasion demands it, downright ‘out there’ fabulous!
Read on to dip your toe into our interesting, varied, exciting and occasionally unusual world of events!
Scottish Wholesale Association (SWA)
The SWA has traditionally chosen Crieff Hydro as the host venue for its annual conference for a number of years, with each year’s theme being unique, unusual and requiring some creative genius!
This year, we did a ‘never been done before’ event, a Heston Blumenthal-style canapé and cocktail evening on the Thursday which we followed on the Friday with a blinging ‘Gold, Glitz and Glamour’ bbq, rounding the three day event off with a spectacular Great Gatsby style Gala Dinner on the Saturday night complete with feather centerpieces and a vintage Rolls Royce!
Themes tend to make an event and bring everyone together with the typical “What are you wearing?” questions followed by the “Did you see what so and so was wearing!” comments afterwards, which create these all important talking points and addressing some of the key issues when it comes to events – bringing people together!

Daimler and Lanchester Owners’ Club 50th Anniversary Tour (DLOC)
Earlier in the year, we were honoured to host a very special event for a particularly lovely group of individuals.
The Daimler and Lanchester Owners’ Club chose Crieff Hydro as the base to mark its 50th anniversary, a special week-long tour, taking in some of the most spectacular sights and scenery across the Highlands and North of Scotland.
A party of 37 took part in the road trip in 20 cars, including the Patron of the DLOC, Duncan Saunders, who is the only surviving founder member of the Club and has the distinction of being an attendee and participant at every Annual Rally of the Club, which including this year’s event, made 50 altogether.
The party congregated on the Sunday evening at the hotel to enjoy a celebratory dinner together before warming up the engines on the Monday morning for a press photocall and their grand departure to hit the West Coast, staying at our newly acquired Ballachullish Hotel for their first evening of the tour.
The group even brought their own ‘quadcopter’ which rose 400 ft in the air to capture some stunning aerial shots of the tour to add to their amazing photolog, capturing a week of special memories.

As John Cleese once said, "if you want creative workers, give them enough time to play." And although the Apodo System looks deceptively like a plaything, it's actually a pretty nifty piece of kit. Ideal for indoors, it's more cerebral than physical. What's more, it's brilliant fun.
Teams will enjoy a highly interactive and rewarding indoor teambuilding experience as they work together to improve communication, organisation, initiative and decision making skills. And you might be surprised which of your team takes the lead as the activities unfold.
It's simple. Choose the outcomes you want to achieve (we're on hand to help), pick the corresponding "pod" (they're packed with all sorts of weird and wonderful items) and let our trained instructors help you achieve your goals. With around 100 activities, the sky's the limit for what you want to achieve.
