Meet Careen, our BIG Country Childcare Practitioner.
Careen’s been part of the team since she was a child too, when she’d help out at the stables on weekends off from primary school.
She officially started working here as a waitress in the Meikle restaurant in 1986 and spent many years in the food and beverage side of the hotel, before deciding a couple of years ago that it was time for a career change.
With the experience of having three of her own children, Careen decided to make the move to BIG Country, where she gained her qualification to be a Childcare Practitioner.
She loves nothing more than welcoming the children and getting a wee cuddle from the babies. But don’t let us tell you the full story – let’s hear a little more about Careen, from Careen…
What was the worst thing you did when you were a child?
In the days when we used to go and pick potatoes in the October school holidays, I put some worms into my brother’s sandwiches because he wasn’t helping me. I did tell him when he went to bite it…
What fictional character do you wish you could meet?
Well let me think about that… no need, Jamie Fraser from Outlander!!!
What’s your favourite season and why?
I simply love Christmas time, I can remember as a child it was just such a magical time for me.
So I start by putting up my decorations on the 1st of November, every year, to keep up the family tradition. My mother would point out that she was never that early with the decorations.
If you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would it be and why?
I would love to have dinner with Princess Diana. I admired her for her natural people skills and all the work she did for charity, especially children.
What’s your most embarrassing childhood memory?
I was on a family holiday and we had all been swimming. I came out of the pool to get ready and went to give my Dad a cuddle from behind. When the man turned around I realised he wasn’t my dad!
What would you do if you had Bernard’s watch?
If you haven’t seen Bernard’s Watch, it’s a watch that stops time, but you can carry on doing whatever you want while everyone else is stopped in time.
I would search for Sam Heughan (aka Jamie Fraser), get myself all glammed up and then start the clock! This would be so I could get his autograph and have a photo taken… Felt I should explain that so my husband doesn’t get jealous!
What was your favourite toy growing up?
I grew up in the country so I was always outside playing. I can remember getting a bright sparkly pink skateboard when they first came out. It was a fast track to bruised knees!
Who would play you in a movie about your life, and why?
I think I would choose Goldie Hawn, she is blonde and bubbly like myself.
