It’s time to say hello to Hannah, our Banqueting and Events Manager.
Hannah likes nothing more than seeing people enjoying themselves and having a good time. Which is handy as she’s spent her whole life surrounded by hospitality, growing up with her parents and grandparents running a club in Yorkshire.
She then went on to the University of Huddersfield to do a degree in Hospitality Management which brought her on a placement year to Crieff Hydro.
That year in the Hydro B&E team changed Hannah’s life. She was promoted to supervisor and met her husband James, so it goes without saying that once she completed her degree she came back to join us. Six years later she now heads up the B&E team, but don’t let us tell you everything there is to know about Hannah, let’s hear a little more from the lady herself…
What’s your music guilty pleasure?
What’s your favourite thing about working in B&E?
This is an easy one to answer, my favourite thing about B&E is the team I work with. We have a real sense of team spirit about the department, and it really does make all the difference, especially during the long shifts. I also love that we pull together and can make anything happen.
What day would you love to re-live, what happened that day?
My wedding day, 30th Aug 2014. It was a wonderful day made even better by having all of our family and friends there in my home village of Wortley in South Yorkshire. Having everyone together at one time doesn’t happen very often as everyone’s all spread out all over the place. It was really lovely to spend the day with all of our favourite people, plus we had beautiful sunny weather and a fantastic party.
What’s your favourite type of event to work?
We look after such a wide variety of events and I enjoy different things about each. But just seeing people having a good time and knowing that you and your team have helped to deliver a successful event is a great feeling.
If you could host your own banquet and have any guests you like, who would you invite (you can have six guests)?
- The Queen – I think she’d be full of interesting stories
- David Attenborough – I’d love to hear about all the wonderful places he’s been
- JK Rowling – I’m a massive Harry Potter fan
- Alex Ferguson – the man is a Manchester United legend
- Maggie Smith – I just think she’s great
- Dave Grohl – love the Foo Fighters
I’d probably have to up the numbers and sneak my Gran in to the party because if I’m inviting the Queen and Maggie Smith then I know she would love to be there…
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go to?
The list is endless, there are so many places I’d love to go. At the minute, the top of my list is Iceland to see the Northern Lights, Canada and New Zealand… I’d also love to road trip across America.
What’s been your most embarrassing moment in B&E?
I can be very clumsy so there’s been a fair few trips and falls over the years.
What’s your proudest moment to date?
Besides getting my black belt in karate when I was 17, finishing my dissertation and graduating are two of the things I’m most proud of to date. I’m also very proud to have worked my way up through the B&E department, I never would have thought I’d be manager one day back when I started on placement in 2010.
