Young Carers Taste Test Christmas at Crieff Hydro

Press Release

Perth and Kinross Young Carers were given a front row seat to experience Christmas festivities at Crieff Hydro Hotel on opening day, including the opportunity to try the new Mackie’s turkey and cranberry ice cream flavour.

Crieff Hydro has a full festive line up on offer this year – respecting of course, current covid-19 guidelines and PKAV’s Young Carers enjoyed some well-earned respite. They spent an afternoon enjoying the duo of reindeers, hot chocolate and novelty ice cream as well as completing the interactive treasure hunt along the hotel’s candy cane lane.

A bespoke section of the Victorian Gardens is dedicated to the young carers this year who renamed it Arendelle as they designed and created Frozen characters which are on display.  Children and volunteers from Kids Week in Crieff (KWIK) also contributed to the character creation this year.

Kristian Campbell, Crieff Hydro General Manager said: “We always like to bring the magic of Christmas to Crieff Hydro and this year is no different with our outdoor illuminated walkways, Gruffalo and Frozen character trail, reindeers, Santa’s grotto and our vintage bus serving winter warmers and exclusive Mackie’s festive ice-cream flavours.

“It was fantastic to welcome Perth and Kinross Young Carers to experience our winter wonderland on opening day, their Frozen characters in the Victorian Garden look fantastic and are on display for everyone who visits this festive season to enjoy.”

Lauren Suttie, Young Carer Support Worker, said: “We’re really excited about working with Crieff Hydro. PKAVS Young Carers supports over 350 aged between 5 to 15 years of age through 1-2-1 counselling, respite groups and opportunities.  It’s wonderful having the support of Crieff Hydro and we look forward to an exciting partnership.”

Angela Baker, Kids Week in Crieff committee member, said: “KWIC is a small community based volunteer organisation. One of our aims is to provide events with intergenerational and all-ability inclusion. One of our primary aims is encouraging kids and families to get outdoors and generally spend quality time together.

“We were delighted to be asked to be part of the winter activities at Crieff Hydro this year. It’s a craicin’ opportunity to highlight the fantastic work of our volunteers, the amazing work that PKAVS Young Carers provide and the generosity of Crieff Hydro of pulling together such a brilliant event that the community can enjoy together. Such a burst of positivity after such a terribly unsettled year. Thanks for having us, we’re delighted to be involved!”
